If you’re wondering what could possibly be your source of income when you’re in the Philippines, we recommend that you do business (I think wherever you go, the businessman always wins). But we’re not talking of just any business. What you want to be going is a business that’s already proven to work and offers high profits.
If you plan on living in Cebu, we recommend that you try an outsourcing business like a call center for, medical transcription business for US hospitals, or a content creation business for website owners and Internet-based companies all over the world.
In 2008, Cebu City was ranked number one among the 50 emerging “global outsourcing cities” around the world by Tholons, a global services and investment advisory magazine. It was followed by Shanghai (second), Beijing (third) and Ho Chi Minh (fourth).
There are around 22 call center companies and 36 non-call center companies operating in Cebu.
What makes Cebu attractive is that there is a ready pool of trainable English-speaking people, and the infrastructure is not at all that bad. There are many buildings, some of which you can find in IT park in Lahug, Cebu City, that cater to call center operations. Other places in the Philippines that are conducive for outsource operations include Pasig, Quezon, and Mandaluyong (all in Metro Manila).
So, if you’re up for living in the Philippines but don’t know what would be your source of income, try looking into call center and other outsourcing operations.
Other than that, however, you can also look into doing Internet marketing from Cebu. Yes, there are many freelance writers as well as IT programmers in Cebu that you can organize into content teams to grow your online business.
I must say that living in Cebu is good if you have the money to support yourself. Life is relatively comfortable on $1,000 per month. However, if you don’t have this kind of income, you can always get it by doing business in Cebu.
